How long is the program?

The program includes 20 different go-at-your-own-speed modules, which take around 16 hours to complete over 6 weeks. You will also attend 4 online facilitated dialogue sessions where you will connect with the global peers in your cohort, as well as an AFS Qualified Facilitator, to reflect on the content, exchange ideas, and participate in group discussion as you build your global competence skills.

Global Up programs are flexible and designed to fit around busy schedules. You can expect to spend approximately 2-3 hours per week in the program. Once you are enrolled, we’ll survey you on your availability so that we can ensure we schedule the most optimal timeframes for you and your global peers. You can always join the next cohort in case to find the schedule that fits you better.

What are the requirements to participate?

Anyone and everyone over 18 years old of age is welcome to participate. These are our recommendations:

Be mindful of the diversity of the group: learners from all over the world and from different professional and personal backgrounds will join.
Make sure to be available for the mandatory live sessions and be as flexible as possible to adapt to a schedule that fits the whole group.
Organize yourself to complete the required modules in time and before every live session, which take place every 5-6 modules.
Bring all your knowledge to the sessions, stay present and be brave and intentional when dealing with the rest of the group. Learning from each other is the most powerful takeaway of this program.

When are the live sessions taking place?

The program includes four Facilitated Dialogue Sessions of 90 minutes each and facilitated by an expert Qualified Facilitator trained by AFS. The sessions take place weekly after every set of modules (5-6 modules), which allows you to take a break to reflect about your learnings and bring your thoughts to the sessions.

The dates and times of the sessions will be made available as soon as the cohort is closed. This will allow us to make sure that all timezones are considered in order to pick the best available time for all participants.

Please take into consideration the following:

In order to complete the program, you need to attend at least 3 out of the 4 sessions.
AFS does not guarantee a date and time that will fit your schedule. Because of the geographical diversity of our participants, we will select the time slots most accessible and appropriate for everyone. We ask you to apply your flexibility and adaptability skills in order to provide an equal experience for all learners.

What do I need to participate in this program?

Do I need to speak English?

Cohorts are run in English (with videos subtitled in English and Spanish), and with live sessions facilitated in English. We recommend a level of English that allows you to:

Read the written content
Comment in the forums
Understand and participate in the live sessions

Are you shy about speaking in English? Don’t worry about that!

People from all over the world and non-native English speakers are taking this course, so most of the participants have different levels of English. Everyone is welcome! This is also an opportunity for you to practice and improve your written and oral language skills.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes. All learners who successfully complete all requirements will earn the AFS Global Competence Certificates, which features a complete list of the educational goals you met and skills you developed.

Besides that, you will also earn a Digital Credential issued in collaboration with Credly. Your digital credential (or badge) is a verifiable source that certifies your accomplishment and can be easily added to any professional platform or social media.
